Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas
Monday April 6, 1992
First full day afloat. We are at Pleasure Island but the seas are very rough so they use the landing craft boat to tender the people to the island for a day of sun and swim. We decide not to go. We enjoy roaming the ship and watch a movie in our room. I nap alot. We have a great casual lunch. Dinner is a wonderful game hen, plus, plus...
The show tonight is Broadway musical songs. Very good cast and good voices. I'm tired. We retire at 10:30 and go to sleep at 11:30.
After much research looking for a place called Pleasure Island, I finally realized the this stop was at a private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Lines called Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. It was the first "private" island purchased by a cruise line in 1977. After studying the map of this island which is 1-1/2 miles wide and 2-1/2 miles long, I think it looks like alot of fun. Too bad Mom was too tired to see it. Maybe that's why she didn't bother to find out what it was actually called. Or perhaps 20 years ago, it really was called 'Pleasure Island."
